Shelby County Drug Free Coalition
Good Afternoon,

The Shelby County Drug Free Coalition is now accepting proposals for program and project funding for the 2010 Grant Cycle. Programs and projects must seek to reduce substance abuse in one of SCDFC priority areas: underage drinking, adult alcohol abuse, marijuana use, prescription and over the counter drug abuse. Programs/projects must fall into one of three categories: prevention/education, intervention/treatment, or law enforcement. A technical workshop is being offered on Friday, September 25 from 1-3pm. The workshop will cover problem statements, objectives and strategies, filling out the application and other important information for 2010. SCDFC staff and board members will be available to answer questions as well. This workshop is not mandatory for proposal consideration. However, attendance is highly recommended by the SCDFC Grant Making Committee.

Please find all forms on the SCDFC Web site: www.shelbycountydrugfree.com

For more information contact the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition at 317-398-3135.

On July 1 the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition hosted a community round table to take a look at prescription and over the counter drug abuse in Shelby County. After a lengthy discussion, key stakeholders and topic experts agreed that there were several priorities that needed to be addressed around the prescription/over the counter drug abuse problem in our community. Task Teams were formed and for the past several weeks have been working on solutions.

October is Drug Abuse Awareness month with the last week being Red Ribbon Week. SCDFC has chosen prescription drug abuse as the subject for our first Red Ribbon Community Awareness Breakfast. During this breakfast we will frame the prescription drug abuse problem, and hear from local community experts who will give updates about the Task Team work to this point. Come find out how agencies like Solid Waste Management District, Major Health Partners, and Freeman Funeral Home, among *others, are working together in new ways to find solutions to community problems. This event is open to the public so feel free to invite others.

Please join us and show your support for a healthy, drug free Shelby County.

*This initiative is a partnership of the following agencies:

Shelby County Drug Free Coalition-Shelby Co. Solid Waste Management District-Shelbyville Waste Water Treatment Plant

Shelby Senior Services-Major Health Partners-Indiana American Water-Shelby Community Health Center-Turning Point Domestic Violence Services-Freeman Family Funeral Services-Shelbyville Police Department-Shelby County Sheriff’s Department-Shelby Co. Probation-Shelby Co. Community Corrections
