Weekly Broadcast April 24

Indiana Chamber of Commerce
The third and final edition of the Indiana Chamber's 2009 Legislative Agenda is now available.
This document, as always, matches the Chamber's policy positions (developed by employees from member companies that serve on public policy committees and the board of directors) to specific legislation introduced in the House and Senate.

The Indiana Chamber represents nearly 5,000 member companies that employ over 800,000 Hoosier workers. We look forward to continuing to work with your organization on behalf of all Indiana businesses and their employees.

A cash bar will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m. 2009 marks SCUFFY’s 55th Fund Drive, and you are a very important part of the SCUFFY organization’s success. This annual event is our opportunity to thank you for your support and volunteerism. We are anxious to share this years accomplishments and to announce the financial outcome of our 2009 Drive. Dinner is $15 per person and can be paid for in advance by stopping by the SCUFFY office, or you can pay at the door upon your arrival for the dinner. Please email Barbara at barbara@scuffy.org or phone the SCUFFY office with your RSVP at 398-6231 by Friday, May 1st, to let us know whether you will be able to attend the End of Drive Dinner and how many will be in your party. We hope you will join us for this special event, and we look forward to seeing you on May 6th.

With this year’s SCUFFY drive well underway, I wanted to take a moment and share a story of accomplishment with all of the Shelby County Chamber Members.  Without question this is a difficult year for this campaign – With many businesses and individuals struggling to make ends meet, charitable giving, among other things, has become more difficult.  As an organization, SCUFFY has challenged those that are able to try and give a minimum of 10% more than last year and those that have never given before to consider giving to SCUFFY for the first time.  This year’s drive has become a little more personal – we all know someone who has been affected by the current economic situation and some may be in need of services provided by the thirteen agencies SCUFFY supports for the very first time.  I am pleased to report that many organizations and individuals are stepping up the plate and exceeding their goals… and exceeding our expectations!  Below you’ll find a story from Kim Owens and the Shelbyville Central Administrative Offices that should warm your heart and proves, if we all do our part, we can reach our campaign goal of $765,000.  I hope it inspires and challenges you to try to do a little extra this year for this important cause.  With your help we can raise it!  YES WE CAN!!

Thank you for all you do!

Chris King
’09 SCUFFY Drive Chair

Hi Chris,

“CAN WE RAISE IT?  YES WE DID!"  As I told you this morning, when Mary Harper said put a "1" in front of our amount I had to sit down and remind her of the past history of this office.  I'm sure our original goal amount looks like a small goal in comparison to most and, granted, we have a few more employees located in Central Office than in past years, but to increase our goal by almost 300% seemed unreachable and a little crazy.  Well, that was until Mary Harper took charge and assured us that YES WE CAN!  She challenged the team to go where this team has never gone before.  When she walked into the workroom and saw fellow team members standing looking at the poster that had just been hung for all to see each day along with the look of certain defeat on their faces, she confidently yelled out..."Can we raise it?" to which there was no reply; however, she kept the faith and yelled back, assuring all those in doubt, "Yes we can!"  Little by little a "buzz" in the office began and the good news for SCUFFY is that not only did we meet this lofty goal, but we exceeded it!  Maybe it was watching the percent line move closer to the 100% mark or seeing a new "SCUFFY MAN" added to the wall, or maybe it was simply the bold challenge, but we did it!  Dollar by dollar, we watched with great satisfaction as the red goal line move above the 100% mark, but more importantly, a few more questions were asked and answered about the value of SCUFFY and the 13 agencies in our community that are served by this campaign.
